Obituary for Phyllis S. Brown
Phyllis S. Brown, 86, of Vincennes, IN passed away Thursday December 20, 2018 at Gentle Care Nursing Center with her family at her bedside. Phyllis was born August 8, 1932 in Lawrence County, IL the daughter of Claude C. and Wanetta Wood Hinton. Phyllis was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and after graduation she entered the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Good Samaritan and then with Dr. Vonderleith having worked with him for over 45 years, she then continued her career as Health Coordinator for Head Start for 7 years as well as migrant health nurse for the Indiana State Board of Health for 4 summers. She married Richard F. Brown on October 19, 1958 and they made their life together for over 60 years. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Sewing Guild of Terre Haute and Vincennes, Elks Auxiliary, Harmony Society, she served as the first president of the JC ets and the Wednesday Nurse’s Lunch Bunch.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Richard F. Brown, their children, Richard L. Brown, and his wife Cindy of Vincennes, IN and Rebecca Noe, and her husband Gary of Chattanooga, TN. Her grandchildren, Christian Brown, Ciera Noe and Lindsey Noe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, Carol Miller Diasher, Rosanne Finley and Joyce Harness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday December 27, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday December 26, 2018 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Good Samaritan Hospice. Duesterberg-Fredrick is honored to assist the Brown Family during their time of loss.
