Obituary for Ray J. Moyer
Ray J. Moyer, 92, of Vincennes, passed away Sunday February 16, 2020 at the Willow Manor Nursing Center. Ray J was born July 22, 1927 in Sumner, IL the twin son of Clarence and Bernice Ackman Moyer. He served his country at the end of WW II in the U. S. Navy and then he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service he began working for Marathon Oil company and retired after over 35 years. He married Norma Smith and she preceded him in 1999. He them married Martha Gellaspy Burnett. Ray held memberships in the Moose and the American Legion and he was a devout Christian, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Martha “Marty” Burnett, children, Diane Froning, and her husband Mark of Friendly, OH, Rick Moyer, and his wife Cathleen Rooney of Carmel, IN, Cheryl Loftin, and her husband Tom of Cypress, TX and Radonna Piper, and her husband Bud of Laurel, MS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsey Froning, Nate Moyer, Alliy Moyer, Christopher Moyer, Angela Rundle, Amber Piper, Taylor Piper and 4 great grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Moyer, his twin brother Rex Moyer, Jess Moyer, Anna Louvre Cochran and Lucille Lovelace.
Funeral services will be held Friday February 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with private burial service to follow. Military honors will be presented by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the donor’s charity of choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick is honored to assist the Moyer family during their time of loss.
