Obituary for Raymond A. Ruppel Raymond Anthony Ruppel, 77, rural Vincennes, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born October 26, 1935 in rural Knox County, one of the twin sons of Anthony and Anna Marie (Schlomer) Ruppel. An accomplished entrepreneur and innovator, Ray held a number of patents. He founded several successful local businesses including Vincennes Poultry, which he owned for 14 years, R& R Security and Trailer Safety Lights. He was a founding member of the National Independent Poultry and Food Distributors Association. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. A regular in the church choir, he also sang with the Sacred Heart Singers for many years. In his younger years, Ray was a pilot. He was passionate about organic farming, and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, throwing horseshoes and playing pool. On November 23, 1957, he married Mary Ann Ueding and they made their life together for over 55 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Ruppel, their children: Joseph Ruppel and his wife Tammy, of Vincennes, Susan Sanders and her husband Jonathan, of Vincennes, Carolyn Wolfe and her husband Brad of Sumner, IL, Lisa Stanley and her husband Mark of Pittsboro, IN, Ann Griggs and her husband Scott of Vincennes, Bob Ruppel of Vincennes, Ray Alan Ruppel and his wife Maria of Vincennes, Travis Ruppel and his wife Kathy of Vincennes and Terry Ruppel and his wife Rebecca of Lawrenceville, IL. Twenty grandchildren also survive: Ashley Ruppel, Tyler Ruppel, Nikki (Sanders) Rogers, Jonathan Sanders II, Allyson (Wolfe) Fiscus, Edge Gher, Kelsey Wolfe, McKenzie Wolfe, Melissa Stanley, Christopher Stanley, Michael Stanley, Vanessa Griggs, Jeremy Griggs, Elizabeth Ruppel, Patrick Ruppel, Nolan Ruppel, Nathan Ruppel, Daci Ruppel, Bethany Ruppel and Sarah Ruppel, as do three great grandchildren: Rhyan Fiscus, Jake Fiscus and Paisley Ruppel. His is also surviving are three brothers Donald Ruppel and his wife Lois of Vincennes; Earl Ruppel and his wife Judy of Vincennes, Richard Ruppel of Lawrenceville, IL, and two sisters, Antoinette Hedden and Millie Pea both of Vincennes. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, his twin brother Ralph Ruppel, Robert Ruppel, Vincent Ruppel, Edward Ruppel and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Eddleman and Lillian Ruppel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday May 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. John Schipp and Deacon Earl Ruppel officiating. He will be laid to rest in the St. Thomas Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday May 1, 2013 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM.
