Obituary for Rita M. Primus
Rita M. Primus, 95, passed away Friday October 23, 2020 at BridgePointe Health Campus. Rita was born February 14, 1925 in Knox County the daughter of Christopher and Cecilia Kaiser Vieck. She graduated Lincoln High School in1943 and began working various jobs and on January 5, 1944 she married Walter Joe Primus and they made their life together on the farm for 70 years until his death on August 21, 2014. Rita was and active member of the St. Francis Xavier/Old Cathedral serving the church on various activities, Old Cathedral quilters, Altar Society, where she served as president, donating her time for anything the church needed. She and her husband, Walter Joe, received the Brute Society Award for their faithful devotion to the church. She was a member of the K of C Auxiliary, where she served in various offices and served as president, the Daughters of Isabella Circle # 309 where she served as past Regent, member of Sand Ridge Home Extension Homemakers, the ways and means chair for 2 years on the Lawrence Co. Home Extension Board. She loved her family, sewing many of their clothes, quilting, Church functions and various charitable organizing.
Rita is survived by her children, Charles E. Primus, and his wife Nadine of Lawrenceville, IL, Anita M. Nelson of Dunlap, IL, Karen C. Bradford of Casey, IL and Roy J. Primus, and his wife Nancy of Williamsburg, VA. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Maurice Vieck, Joe Vieck and Dr. Charles Vieck DDS, and his wife Mary Lou all of Vincennes, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Joe Primus, a son, Louis L. Primus, and his wife Merry Grubb Primus, her parents, Christopher and Cecilia Vieck, brothers, Fr. Hilary Vieck, Fr Lawrence Vieck and Richard Vieck. Her sisters, Agnes Vieck Ottensmeyer and Loretta Vieck Holl, her sons in law, William Nelson and Harold L. Bradford and a great-great grandson Donovan Clark.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday October 27, 2020 at the Old Cathedral with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She was laid to rest next to her husband in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family requests contributions can be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Donors Charity of Choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Primus family during their time of loss.
