Obit for Robert C. Joyce

Robert C. Joyce, 93, of Vincennes, passed away October 3, 2024 at Lodge of the Wabash Nursing Home with his family at his bedside. Bob was born April 21, 1931 in Vincennes, the son of Morris and Ruth Bell Joyce. He graduated from Lincoln High School and began a career in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant when he retired after 21 years due to the death of his wife of 18 years, Muriel Brocklehurst Joyce, whom he married on July 1, 1952. After his retirement from the Air Force, Bob began a career with the U.S. Post Office and worked until his 2nd retirement. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier/Sacred Heart Parish, American Legion and was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.


Bob is survived by his children, Debra Rusch of Vincennes, Charles (Mary) Joyce of Africa, Jane (Mark) Klueh and Beatrice Joyce both of Vincennes, IN. His 16 grandchildren, Teresa Haggard, Amber Wirth, Sean (Sara) Wirth, Katie (Holden) Jackson, Louis Rusch, Joshua (Lani) Joyce, Liz (Kyle) Gangel, Hannah Joyce, Rebekah (Caleb) Miller, Rachel (Adam) Azevedo, Caleb (Whitney) Joyce, Christina (Jonathan) Lange, Amy (Jonathan) Garvey, Erica (Andrew) Peters, Kara (Kerry) Fuller and Cody (Sheyenne) Joyce. 31 great grandchildren (soon to be 32 in November) and 2 great-great grandchildren. His brothers, Daniel (Patricia) Joyce of Vincennes, IN and David (Carole) Joyce of Alabama, a sister in law, Shirley Joyce of Princeton, IN. His brothers and sisters in law, Mike ( Donna) Brocklehurst of Canada, Barb (Joe) Connors of Canada, Beatrice Brocklehurst of Canada and Marilyn Brocklehurst of Canada


He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Joyce, a son Robert Joyce, a son in law, Louis Rusch Jr., his parents, Morris and Ruth Joyce, his brothers, James Joyce, William (Patricia) Joyce, his in laws, Charles and Mary Brocklehurst, Frank (Bess) Brocklehurst, Jack (Helen) Brocklehurst, George (Marina) Brocklehurst, Fred Brocklehurst, Charles Brocklehurst, Phillip Brocklehurst, Mary (George) Ballard, Dorothy Converse, Martha (Harry) Grauf Bernard Brocklehurst and Patricia Brocklehurst.


Funeral services will be celebrated Thursday October 17, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Fr. Tony Ernst, Charles Joyce and Joshua Joyce officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, with gravesite military honors provided by Scott AFB. The family will receive friends from 12:00 (Noon) PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to Wounded Warriors, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Joyce family during their time of loss.
