Obituary for Robert L. “Bob” Steimel Sr.
Robert L. “Bob” Steimel Sr., 90, of Bicknell, IN, passed away Tuesday January 22, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. Bob was born December 29, 1928 in Vincennes the son of Leo L. and Agnes M. Mouzin Steimel. Bob was a 1946 graduate of Wheatland High School and was a lifelong farmer. His love of agriculture spanned his entire lifetime. He was a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Bicknell, the Bruceville Rod and Gun Club and he loved pitching horseshoes belonging to several Horseshoe Clubs. He married Hazel DeBord on November 25, 1950 and they have made their life together for 68 years. He was devoted to his family, his faith and the farm.
Bob is survived by his wife, Hazel Steimel, their children, Deborah J. Snapp and her husband Jerry of Vincennes, IN, Connie Jo Hughes, and her husband Rodney of Bicknell, IN, Robert L. Steimel Jr., and his wife Sandy of Vincennes, IN, Cathy Ann Hudson, and her husband Terry of Patoka, IN, Janet Sue Telligman, and her husband Michael of Vincennes, IN, Judy Kay Menke, and her husband Mike of Wilmington, NC, Kenneth Ray Steimel, and his wife Joy of Bicknell, IN and Phillip Scott Steimel, and his wife Karen of Bicknell, IN. He was blessed with 26 grandchildren and 53 Great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, James Steimel, and his wife Jan of Washington, IN and a sister Marietta Early of Vincennes, IN.
Bob was preceded in death by a granddaughter Casey Jo Lamb, his parents, 5 brothers, Richard Steimel, Charles Steimel, Sam Steimel, Jack Steimel, William Steimel and 4 sisters, Norma Cary, Betty Stephens, Margie Steimel and Patricia Clark.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday January 28, 2019 at 2PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mariah Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday January 27, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel in Bicknell, IN. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Building Fund.
