Obituary for Robert W. �Bob� Snyder Robert W. �Bob� Snyder, 89, passed away March 22, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital at 7:45 PM with his family at his bedside. He was born October 7, 1922 in Freelandville, IN the son of Norman & Hilda Kettelhut Snyder. He was fondly remembered as Bob, and he was confirmed with the class of 1936 at the Bethel Church in Freelandville, He was a 1940 graduate of Edwardsport High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and began his active duty on December 7, 1942. After completing basic training, he trained to handle aerial ordinance and attended gunnery school at Ft. Magoo, qualifying him as a gunner�s mate. He was attached to a PBY Squadron in Jacksonville, FL. He was also stationed in Guam & Saipan. After his service in World War II, he returned to Knox County to begin his career as a farmer. He married L. Bonnie Smith on November 18, 1946, and they made their life together for nearly 65 years until her death on July 20, 2011. His love of the land was quite exceptional, allowing him to continue his work well into his eighties. Truly, an avid gardener and always generous sprit, he enjoyed sharing much of his produce with his family and friends. He attended farm classes sponsored by Purdue University at the Monroe City School where Mr. Stuckey was his instructor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his children, Linda Osborne of Lafayette, IN, Robert W. Snyder Jr, and his wife Charlotte of Evansville, IN, Jim Snyder, and his wife Angie of Freelandville, IN, Susan Lynn, and her husband Terry of Bicknell, IN and Tammy Murray, and her husband Darrell of Cincinnati, OH. Grandchildren, Mindy Doll, and her husband Doug, Matt Osborne, and his wife Julie, Todd Snyder, and his wife Brandie, Tiffany Manning, and her husband Matt, Ian Snyder, Marsi Davis, Tama Allen, and her husband Cory, Cody Snyder, Robert (Robbie) Lynn, Laura Lynn and Jasmine Murray. 13 great grandchildren also survive him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, his parents and a sister Myrtle Henry. Funeral services will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Sunday March 25, 2012 at Bicknell United Methodist Church with Pastor John Moreland and Pastor Renee Perkins officiating. He will be laid to rest in Asbury Chapel Cemetery privately. Gravesite military honors will be conducted by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the church. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warriors project that assists families of servicemen that were wounded in the Iraq and Afghanistan War. Arrangements entrusted to Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel.
