Obituary for Rosemary "Rosie" Catt

Rosemary "Rosie" Helen (Hagerty) Catt, 92, passed away on March 11, 2023 with her family at her side. She was born on October 29, 1930 the daughter of Carl and Clara (Schwenk) Hagerty. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and was a 1948 graduate of St. Rose Academy. On June 25, 1949 she married Raymond Eugene Catt and they made their life together for 47 years.


Rosie had a career in the food service industry working in several local restaurants, managing at Kings Restaurant and Daniel's Chicken and Ribs. She retired from Lincoln High School Cafeteria after 17 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Bicknell Elks. She enjoyed traveling with her family. She and her husband, Ray, traveled the back roads on various trips. She made frequent trips to Florida and special trips to many places including England, Holland, Paris, New England and the west coast.


Rosie was known as a great cook and baker. She made several wedding cakes for family members. In 2014, a family cookbook was made and dedicated to Rosie, including many of her delicious recipes. Family favorites included her brownies, chicken and noodles, oatmeal raisin cookies, and homemade candies at Christmas time. She enjoyed many hobbies: puzzles, bowling, bridge and golf. She was particularly proud of her hole-in- one. She always enjoyed her family Euchre tournaments. She was an avid walker and participated in several 5Ks, placing second in her age group 80-84 in 2012. Rosie had quite the green thumb and had over 100 African Violets that she carefully tended. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and mowed her own lawn into her 80s.


Rosie is survived by her children, Marilyn Matthews (Ken) of Greenville, SC, Carol Williams of Greenville, SC, Steven Catt (Theresa) of Knoxville, TN, Judith Waldroup (Jack) of Evansville, IN, Elizabeth Meyer (Kevin) of Monroe City, IN, and Barbara Ferrill (Terry) of Greenwood, IN. 16 Grandchildren, Christopher Matthews, Julia (Matthews) McLean, Gregory Matthews, Lisa (Williams) Moore, Kimberly (Williams) Davis, Bradley Williams, Carrie (Catt) Bolling, Drew Waldroup, Mitchell Waldroup, Dustin Catt, Laraine (Catt) Perry, Donovan Catt, Amy (Meyer) Matteson, Alex Meyer, Matthew Ferrill, and Shelby (Ferrill) Hricenak. 23 Great-Grandchildren, Nolan and Riley Matthews, Gwendolyn and Ian McLean, Natalie, Elliot, Weston and Sienna Matthews, Elena, Matilda, and Jack Williams, Lucas and Lettie Bolling, Hadley, Maren, and Hagen Waldroup, Austin Waldroup, Easton and Oliver Catt, Josephine Perry, Shania Mirro, Brecklyn and Zeke Matteson. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Yvonne Catt of Frederick, MD, sister-in-law Rita Hagerty of Monroe City, IN, and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Catt, a son David Catt, a grandson Eric Catt, son-in-law Paul Michael Williams, siblings John Robert Hagerty, Suzanne Hagerty, William Hagerty.


The family would like to send out a special thank you to Colonial Assisted Living and Good Samaritan Hospice for the great care they provided to Rosemary.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Johns Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Raymond, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Indiana Deaf Children Foundation, 1200 East 42nd St., Indianapolis, IN, 46205 or St. Vincent DePaul, 1604 Main St., Vincennes, IN, 47591.
