Obituary for Rowe D. Sargent
Obituary for Rowe D. Sargent County Commissioner, Rowe D. Sargent, 80, of Bicknell, passed away Sunday August 28, 2016 at his residence with his family at his bedside. He was born July 4, 1936 in Burns City, IN the son of Garrett and Farrell Baker Sargent. He married Maridell Miller on March 2, 1958 and they began their life together. He served his country in the U.S. Navy Aviation as a radar operator aboard the USS Lexington. He formerly was a Pioneer Dealer for many years and was a principal in S&S Trailer Sales. He was a member of Bethel Church, served as a current commissioner for Knox County, chairman of the GSH board, Knox County Fair Board, formerly served as a board member for the Knox Co. Board of Health, Knox Co. Drainage Board, served on the board for North Knox High School for 16 years, the State and National Assn. of Corn Growers, served and was a active member of the Fellowship of Christian Farmers. He was recognized for his service to his community with the Sagamore of the Wabash and the Walter A. Davis Awards. His Christian faith has been evident in his participation in his church, the Fellowship of Christian Farmers and his mission trips to various countries that included Albania, Romania, Mexico, Russia and various local projects. His activities serving on various boards, serving as commissioner and his church activities was his commitment to making this world and county a better place in which to live. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maridell Sargent, their children, Mark D. Sargent, and his wife Deanna of Bicknell, IN and Susan L. Brocksmith, and her husband Mike of Vincennes, Grandchildren, Patrick Sargent, Christopher Sargent, Victoria Brocksmith and Casandra Brocksmith. His brothers Oral K Sargent, and his wife Carolyn Sargent of Sandborn, IN and Dr. Roger Sargent, and his wife Dr. Peggy Sargent of Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Farrell and Garrett Sargent. Funeral services will be celebrated Thursday September 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Bethel Church in Freelandville, IN with Pastor Mike DeCoursey officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Bethel Cemetery next to the church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Bethel Church from 3 to 8 PM and prior to the services on Thursday. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Church, Good Samaritan Hospice, Freelandville Nursing Home or to the donor�s charity of choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel in Bicknell, IN.
