Obituary for Steven E. Decker
Steven E. Decker, 74, of Vincennes, passed away Tuesday January 14, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. Steven was born June 20, 1945 in Vincennes the son of Wendell H. and Clementine “Sis” Primus Decker. He was a lifelong farmer, raising Registered Oxford Sheep and various livestock. He was a 1963 graduate of Decker High School and a graduate of Purdue University having attained his degree in agronomy. He married Darlene White on December 28, 1974 and they made their life together for over 45 years. He was a 4-H leader for over 20 years, held memberships in the American Oxford Sheep Assn., Purdue Alumni Assn, Farm Bureau and attended the Decker Chapel Methodist Church. He loved the land and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Decker, their children, Ann Hitt, and her husband Dusty of Carlisle, IN and Rex Decker, and his wife Bobbi of Vincennes, IN. Grandchildren, Makayla Hitt, Corban Hitt, Chloe Decker and Adron Decker. He is also survived by a sister in law, Jane Decker of Hazelton, IN, a niece, Julie Dewig and her husband Rob and Alan Decker. He will also be missed by his several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Decker.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Pastors Evelyn Owens and Sam Palito officiating. Steven will be laid to rest near his parents in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home on Friday January 17, 2020 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Knox County 4-H Livestock Committee or the South Knox Education Foundation.
