Thomas E. Porter, 82, of Edwardsport, IN, passed away at his home with his family at his bedside. Tom was born September 18, 1942 in Edwardsport the son of Hartsell Porter and Myrtle Maxine Everett Yagle. He was a graduate of Edwardsport High School and he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a jet mechanic. After his service, he began working at Crane Naval and retired after 40 years. He then worked at INDOT for a total of 10 years and began again working for Lowes until illness forced his final retirement. He married Elouise K. Phipps on February 3, 1972 and they made their life together for over 52 years. Tom was a Christian who practiced his faith in his daily life. He loved fishing, camping, spending time with his family and friends, an avid IU fan and was proud of his service to his country. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Elouise “Elly” Porter, children, Thomas Porter of Loogootte, IN, Jennifer (Bob) Fredrick of Lafayette, IN, Patricia (John) Springfield of Odon, IN. His grandchildren, Aubree Porter, Kaelley Bruce, Logan (Erin) Fredrick, Dillon (Whitney) Fredrick, Laken Fredrick, Dalton Bruns, Alicia Bruns and Alvia Bruns. His great grandchildren, Kaspen Fredrick, Jett Fredrick, Parklyn Fredrick, Ian Bruce and Ember Bruce. He is also survived by a niece, Dee Brown.
Tom was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Porter, a grandson Dakota Bruns, his parents, and a sister, Jane Elliott.
Funeral services will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Saturday December 21, 2024at Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel with Pastor John Moreland officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his son in Edwardsport Town Cemetery with gravesite military honors presented by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Riley Children’s Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the Porter family during their time of loss.
