Obituary for William “Bill” Sampson
William “Bill” Sampson, 72, of Monroe City, IN passed away Sunday November 1, 2020 at his home with his family at his side. Bill was born October 15, 1948 in Vincennes, IN the son of Clayton Sampson and Pauline Stangle. He worked at various dealerships in the parts department specializing in General Motors parts. He married Karen Biggs on May 18, 1968 and they made their life together for 52 years. He was a member of the Old Cathedral Church, the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree where he served as Recorder, served on the Vincennes Catholic School Board for 18 years serving several times as President, spent 20 years with the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department serving as Chief for 12 years, EMT for 20 years, past president and board member for close to 20 years on Monroe City town board, member of the Southern Indiana Development Corporation, Knox County Emergency Management Agency, Monroe City Little League serving as president for many years, served on the Old Cathedral Parish Council for several years also serving as president.

He is survived by his wife Karen Sampson, his children, Michael Sampson and his wife Melanie of Vincennes, and Matt Sampson and his wife Lara also of Vincennes. His grandchildren Madeline Pollak, Evan Miller, Michaela Sampson, Gabby Sampson, Jeffrey Seibert, Kaitlynn Sampson, Madison Sampson, Kaylin Seibert, Hunter Sampson, Kolton Sampson, Mason Sampson, and Harley Flanders.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Pauline Sampson and a sister Mary Jo Sampson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday November 6, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Old Cathedral Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst will be celebrant. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm with the Indiana Volunteer Fire Department memorial service starting at 8 pm on Thursday November 5, 2020, at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions in his memory can be made to Vincennes Catholic Schools, Christian Education Foundation, South Knox Education Foundation, or the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department.
