Obituary for William J. "Bill" Townsley Sr.
William J. "Bill" Townsley Sr., 85 of Vincennes passed away at his home May 8, 2021 with his family at his bedside. Bill was born February 11, 1936 in Vincennes the son of Joseph R. Townsley and Wilma M. Davison Townsley Myers. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Indiana State University having received a Masters in Education. On October 23, 1954 he married Gloria A. Keller and they made their life together for nearly 67 years. He taught at Clark Middle School teaching Science and Math and worked for the Vincennes Community School Corporation for over 31 years. Bill held memberships at St. Vincent Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elk’s, Civitan and was a lifetime member of the Numismatic Assn.
Bill is survived by his wife, Gloria A. Townsley, their children, Rana Howard, and her husband Jay of Vincennes, Gloria Wirtz, and her husband Larry of Montgomery, IN, Bill Townsley Jr. and his companion Julie Bailey of Vincennes, IN, Chuck Townsley, and his wife Gean of Austin, TX and Carol Tussey, and her husband Jeff of LaSalle, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Gomez, Erika Reynolds, John Lee, Ryan Wirtz, Jennifer Madison, Bridget Trousdale, Billy Townsley, Brandon Townsley,Steven Litherland, Emily Skaife, Michael Townsley, Trey Tussey , Bailey Jones, Morgan Wanke and Tristan Tromley. 27 Great grandchildren also survive
He was preceded in death by a son in infancy, his parents and a sister, Margaret Pfoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Thursday May 13, 2021 at St. Vincent Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. He will be laid to rest in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM at the church. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. Vincent Church or the St. Vincent DePaul Store. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Townsley family during their time of loss.
