Obituary for William L. Douglass

William L. Douglass, 81, of Bicknell, Indiana, passed away Wednesday October 9, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. William was born September 21, 1943 in Franklin, Pennsylvania the son of Wayne C. Douglass and (Flossie) Mae Bennett Douglass. After graduation from Moniteau High School in Northern Butler Co. Butler, Pennsylvania in 1962, he attended the Biblical Life Institute. He worked for Quaker State Oil Refinery in Emlenton, Pa. and then Gideon Bible Institute in Tennessee. For over 30 yrs before retirement, he worked as a carrier and driver for Nashville General Hospital, where they called him, “Mr. Bill“. He was an assistant to Pastor Rev. Gearld Mershimer at the Bible Covenant Church in Madison, Tennessee in 1974. He was then a pastor at the Bible Covenant Church in Erin, Tennessee, then again in Madison, Tennessee at the Bible Covenant Church. He then had ministerial licenses with the Pilgrim Holiness Church and helped with the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Bicknell, IN. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and working in his workshop with wood projects. He was always repairing and keeping things going, and had the nickname of “Handyman”. He collected toy trains, and Hot Wheels and various toys'. He married Earline Tilghman on April 11, 1965 and they made their life together for 59 years, and together they had two daughters, Donna and (Bertha) Jean. He is survived by his wife, Earline Douglass, their daughters, Donna Douglass Brouks of Bicknell, Indiana and Jean (Pastor Maurice) Roll of Bicknell, IN. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and expecting his 16th. He is also survived by his brothers, David (Bonnie) Douglass of Emlenton, PA and Dewayne (Donna) Douglass of Six Points, PA and a sister, Betty Shaffer of Six Points, PA. William was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony M. Brouks, his parents Mae Douglass and Wayne Douglass, a brother, George Douglass, a sister in infancy, Patricia Ann Douglass and a brother in law Charles Shaffer. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday October 16, 2024 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel at 1:00 PM Pastor Maurice Roll will be officiating. He will be laid to rest in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00am until the time of service at 1:00 pm the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the family to assist with his expenses of his last illness. Duesterberg-Fredrick is honored to assist the William L. Douglass family during their time of loss.
