Obituary for William R. Dailey
Obituary for William R. Dailey William R. Dailey, 94, of Vincennes, passed away at 3:37 AM Wednesday October 10, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. He was born April 16, 1918 in Knox County the son of Charles & Viola Southers Dailey. He was married to Roberta Bilskie on February 11, 1943 and they made their life together for over 69 years until her death on March 14, 2012. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 40 ET Eight. He served in the US Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant during World War II in the 8th Calvary out of Fort Bliss, Texas where he patrolled the southern border of the United States on horseback. He owned and operated Dailey�s Sunoco at 13th & Main St. and together with his sons, later built and operated Dailey�s Radiator on 13th & Barnett St. He also worked at the Blackford Glass Co. where he served as president of the local union (AFL CIO) at the time of its closing. He enjoyed his vegetable garden that everybody benefited and activities with his family. He is survived by his children, daughters, Margaret Kiefer, Cherie Vieke and her husband, John, sons, Gary Dailey and his wife Lin, and Tom Dailey all of Vincennes. Son-in-law, David Duchac of Nashville, TN. Sister-in-law, Ruth Bilskie of Vincennes. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren. Lisa and Michael Check of Murphreesboro, TN, Cheryl and Randy Ashman of Greenwood, IN, William and Kris Frey of Plainfield, IN, John and Robin Vieke of Kannapolis, NC, Kelly and Joe Maione of Jeffersonville, IN, Brian Vieke, Nancy Case, Micki Dailey and Darin, Jamie and Adam Lane, Jennifer Dailey and Dale, Thomas Dailey and Richard Dailey and Adina all of Vincennes. Kevin and Allison Duchac, Rebecca and Boots Sanders of Nashville, TN, Stephen and Anne Duchac of Glendille, NC. Anne and Dave Budzius of Chesterton, IN and Greg Kiefer of Glendale, Ohio. 33 great grandchildren and 5 Great, great grandchildren. And a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three children, William Robert Dailey Jr, Jerry Sue Dailey and Patricia Duchac and Son-in-law Don Kiefer. He was one of 7 children: two brothers, Cecil and Albert, and four sisters, Margaret Dailey, Viola Mae Lichte, Camilla Green, and Lillian Brasseur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday October 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church. Fr. David Fleck will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his wife and children in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the St. John Building Fund.
