Cheryl L. (Cox) Carter, 67, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Heritage Center in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on September 1, 1958, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Warren Cox and Theresa (Qualkenbush) Cox. Cheryl was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Vincennes University, where she earned her nursing degree. She dedicated more than 21 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse with various healthcare organizations. Known for her warm spirit and kind heart, Cheryl was loved by many and treasured the connections she made with everyone she met.
She truly enjoyed life and cherished time spent with her family. A devoted mother and grandmother, Cheryl found joy in simple pleasures like playing cards and Yahtzee. Her love of animals knew no bounds, especially when it came to her beloved cat, Earline.
Cheryl is survived by her children, Tara (Chris) Roe of Evansville, Indiana, and John (Brittany) Konen of Martinsville, Indiana; her grandchildren, Lauryn Roe, Max Roe, Everett Bates, John R. Konen, and Evelyn Konen; and her brother, Mike (Sharon) Cox of Vincennes, Indiana. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Meagan Bates; her parents; and her sisters, Judy Cox, Carolyn Davis, and Marcia Ferguson.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Heritage Woods family and especially to Cheryl's closest friend, Beverley Branham, for their love and care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Cheryl will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery near her parents and sisters. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice, 1202 W. Buena Vista Road, #107, Evansville, IN 47710.
