Donald “Don” Trabant, 69, of Oaktown, IN, passed away Friday July 10, 2026 in Evansville with his family at his bedside. Don was born February 23, 1957 in Vincennes the son of Elmer and Ruth Scott Trabant. He was a 1975 graduate of North Knox High School and after high school began his career as a coal miner. He worked in the coal mining industry for over 40 years retiring from Sunrise Coal. On December 2, 1978, he married Eileen Nowaskie and they made their life together for nearly 48 years. Don was a member of St. Francis Xavier/Sacred Heart Catholic Church, United Mine Workers, a plainspoken man he was a character and true friend. He was an avid coon hunter, and outdoorsman. He loved attending any activities that his grandchildren were involved in. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Eileen Nowaskie Trabant, his children, Nicholas (Veronica) Trabant, Daniel (Rachelle) Trabant, son in law, Jason Racey, his grandchildren, Olivia Trabant, Will Trabant, Amelia Trabant, Austin Trabant, Cora Trabant, Maddie Trabant, and Logan Trabant. He is also survived by his brothers, Ellis (Ina) Trabant, Bruce Trabant and Raymond Trabant.
Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Trabant Racey in February of 2026, his parents, and a brother, Mark Trabant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 16, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his daughter in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 15, 2026 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary will be held at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier/Sacred Heart Catholic Church in his memory. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Trabant family during their time of loss.
