Obit for Edward E. Banks
Edward "Ed" Banks, 83, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Born on May 3, 1942, in Jackson County, Indiana, Ed was the son of William O. and Opal D. (Amos) Banks. One of six children, Ed grew up in the close-knit community of Crothersville, attending Crothersville High School before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force. Shortly after beginning his service, he married the love of his life, Maxine Johnson, on June 16, 1960. Together, they shared a beautiful and devoted marriage that spanned 57 years. Ed and Maxine established their roots in Vincennes, where they raised their three children. A man of strong work ethic, Ed retired from Whirlpool after 40 years of dedicated service. His commitment to his neighbors extended into public service, where he served as the Johnson Township Trustee for 15 years. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Ed also supported the Democratic Party wholeheartedly continuing to watch CNN until his last day. In his younger years, Ed was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and excitement in hunting, fishing, and boating. Many of the family’s most cherished memories were made at Lake Santee at his parents home and Rhea Harbor, Tennessee, where the family enjoyed house boating. In their golden years, Ed and Maxine embraced the freedom of the open road, traveling extensively in their RV and forging lifelong friendships at every campsite. Whether they were on a cross-country trip or a local "golf cart adventure," they were happiest when they were together.
Ed’s legacy of hard work and family devotion lives on through his daughter, Lesa (Banks) Holscher and her husband, Jeff; daughter-in-law, Melonie Banks; and his beloved grandchildren: Bonnie (Robert) Fish, Brittney (Adam) Glass, and Aaron Banks (Michelle Larsen). He was also the proud great-grandfather to Addisyn, Jackson, and Madilynn Glass. He is further survived by his sister, Helen Prince, and his brother, Robert (Donna) Banks, a brother in law, Virgil Johnson and a special neighbor and friend, Mary Harrington Rogers.
Ed now joins those who preceded him in death: his loving wife, Maxine; his daughter, Shelly (Banks) Goodwin; his son, Donald Banks; his sister, Delores Webber; his brother, Marlon Banks; and his sister, Candice Banks Walterman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 28, 2026 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Caleb Scherzinger and Deacon Earl Ruppel officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in St. Thomas Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Knox Co. Democratic Party. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Banks family during
their time of loss.
