Obit for Ellen A. Riggs

Ellen A. Riggs, 84, of Vincennes, IN, passed away Sunday May 4, 2026 at Gentlecare Nursing Center with her family at her bedside. Ellen was born July 8, 1941 in Kenosha, WI the daughter of Martin and Meta Breul Zoellner. She received 2 bachelors degrees from the University of Wisconsin and her masters degree and her EdS degree from Purdue University in elementary education. She taught English as a second language for many years. She married John D. Riggs July 26, 1970 and they made their life together for almost 56 years. She attended St. John United Church of Christ and was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights, IL. Ellen was a member of the Eastern Star and was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in church life with her family.

She is survived by her husband, John D. Riggs, a daughter, Nancy Riggs of Vincennes, IN and a son, John Alan Hugh Riggs of Des Plains, IL. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Alan (Rebecca) Zoellner of Williamsburg, VA and Don Zoellner of San Diego, CA.

A Memorial Gathering to celebrate her life will be held Saturday May 9, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. John United Church of Christ, services will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Deborah Alkins officiating. She will be laid to rest at a later date. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Riggs family during their time of loss.
