March 2, 1931 – April 12, 2026
Hazel M. (DeBord) Steimel, 95, of Bicknell, IN, passed away Sunday April 12, 2026 at her residence with her family at her bedside. Hazel was born March 2, 1931 in Wheatland, IN the daughter of Samuel and Lucy Cates DeBord. She was a 1949 graduate of Wheatland High School and on November 25, 1950, she married Robert L. Steimel and they made their life together for 68 years until his death on January 21, 2019. She was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the oldest current member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, she and her husband Robert received the Brute Award and was active in various church related events.
She is survived by 8 children, Deborah J. (Jerry) Snapp of Vincennes, IN. Connie J. (Rod) Hughes of Bicknell, IN, Robert L. (Sandy) Steimel JR. of Vincennes, IN, Cathy A. (Terry) Hudson of Patoka, IN, Janet S. (Mike) Telligman of Vincennes, IN, Judy S. (Mike) Menke of Bruceville, IN, Kenneth (Joy) Steimel of Bicknell, IN and Phillip S. Steimel of Bicknell. She was blessed with 20 Grandchildren and 44 Great Grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Steimel SR, a granddaughter, Casey Lamb, her parents, Samuel and Lucy DeBord, a brother, Guy DeBord and 2 sisters, Florance McCarter and Violet Allen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bob in Mariah Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM EST at the church. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital; St. Louis, MO. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the Steimel family during their time of loss.
