Obit for James R. Yochum
James R. Yochum, 77, formerly of Vincennes, passed away at his home April 5, 2026 with his family at his bedside. Jim was born March 27, 1949 at Ft. Knox, Kentucky the son of Sebastian and Lucille M. Fleck Yochum. Jim was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Wabash Valley College having received an AS degree. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Korea. He began his career as a coal miner working for over 30 years with Foundation/AMEX Coal Companies. He married Diana L. Sage on September 2, 1972 and they made their life together for nearly 54 years. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, K of C, American Legion and VFW. He was a member for over 30 years of the Old Post Amatuer Radio Society, he was an active participant with the Military Museum and was a maker of Our Lady Rosary’s .
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Diana L. Yochum, a son, Jason (Amanda) Yochum of Haubstadt, IN, son in law, Derek Dailey of Fishers, IN, grandchildren, Tucker Yochum, Karlee Yochum, Sage Heymann, Luke Heymann, and Lilly Dailey. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth “Kenny” (Linda) Yochum of Vincennes and Thomas “Tom” (Margaret) Yochum of Anna, TX and a sister, Carol Ann Grostefon of Vincennes, IN.
Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Erica Dailey, his parents, Sebastian and Lucille Yochum and a brother, Darrell Yochum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM/ EST on Monday April 13, 2026 at Old Cathedral Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM/ EST until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Deaconess Hospice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Yochum family during their time of loss.
