Norma R. (McKinley) Halter, 96, of Vincennes passed away November 7, 2024 at Bridgepointe Health Campus with her family at her bedside. Norma was born August 26, 1928 in Sullivan County the daughter of Dewey Commodore and Gretchen Bernice Grass McKinley. She was a graduate of Sullivan High School and on October 30, 1948, she married Frederick "Fritz" Halter. They made their life together for 57 years until his death on March 4, 2006. They farmed together and owned and operated a trucking firm during their marriage. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Norma was a fun loving person giving everyone she met a calming presence with a quick whit. She was active in various St. Thomas Parish activities, bereavement dinners and church picnics. She was a Pink Lady volunteer and active in Reading Lab at various grade schools. She also loved to ride her bicycle.

Norma is survived by her children, Diane Hopkins (Richard) of Loogootee, IN, Brenda Halter of Evansville, IN, Carol Piller of Reading, PA, Karen Stevenson (Willie) of Vincennes, IN and Frederick Halter II of Vincennes, IN. Her beloved grandchildren Andrew Hopkins, Ethan Hopkins, Corina Piller, Candi Grismore and B.J. Stevenson and a great granddaughter Paisley Hopkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Halter, a daughter in infancy Maribeth Halter, a son-in-law David Piller, her parents, Dewey and Gretchen McKinley and brothers Willard McKinley and Ronald Gene McKinley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Monday November 11, 2024 at St. Thomas with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Fritz in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home, 521 Vigo St. from11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to St. Thomas Cemetery Fund.
