Helen Marie Emmons, 84, of Bicknell, IN passed away early Sunday April 19, 2020 at her residence. Helen was born November 3, 1935 in Birmingham, AL the daughter of Carl Nichols and Martha Goodwin Hughes and her stepfather, Paul Hughes. She was married to George Emmons in 1953 who preceded her in death. She worked at RCA in Bloomington, IN until her retirement. She was a member of the Bethany General Baptist Church in Bicknell, the French Club, she was active in the Bicknell Senior Center and formerly was active leader in the Girl Scouts.

She is survived by her daughter, Helen Scarber of Bicknell, she raised Bill Messer of Wheatland, IN and Kimberly Messer of Vincennes as her own children. She is also survived her grandchildren, Jimmy Emmons, and his wife Sharyl, her great grandchildren, Rick Emmons, Aja Emmons, Bradley White, Kayla White, Breanna White and Drew Brown. A sister Bobbie Townsend of Spencer also survives.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, George Emmons, a son James Richard Emmons, a son in law, John Scarber, a granddaughter, Kersandra Scarber and a brother, Bill Hughes.

Funeral services will be private. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel is honored to assist the Emmons family during their time of loss. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Freelandville Community Home for their care they extended to Helen during her time she was a patient. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the donor’s charity of choice.
