Obituary for John R. Burt Jr. John R. Burt Jr, 62, of Vincennes, passed away Sunday September 15, 2013 at the Bridge Pointe Health Campus. He was born February 24, 1951 in Vincennes the son of John R. Sr & Donna Joy Weaver Burt. He was a graduate of high school and he joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country where he attained the rank of SGT. He retired from the Air Force and he returned to Vincennes where he was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the 40 ET 8. He held membership in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and he lived his faith everyday. He held true to the meaning of being a Good Samaritan, as he volunteered for various fund raising endeavors no matter what the cause. He participated in the March of Dimes, Knox Co. Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Awareness, Indiana Military Museum, U.S. Navy League, Sacred Heart Church Picnics and Vincennes University Foundation. He sponsored a scholarship at Vincennes University, where he would go monthly to the foundation and make payments for the scholarships he funded. He was a good and gentle man who saw the need and tried to help fulfill it. He had the greatest respect for the Vincennes Fire and Police Departments. He worked at Harold�s JC for over 17 years. In the summer picnic time each year, John would be taking care of trash pickup at each church picnic. He would work many years for the German fest working trash detail. He worked the yearly spirit of rendezvous as one of the �trash monks�. If you were a regular visitor to the Indiana Military Museum, you would see John on trash detail. John was a faithful volunteer for many other organizations in Vincennes including GSH Hospice, Vincennes Housing Authority and his church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Not only was he contributor of his time, he was also a very faithful contributor to the American red cross by donating over 8 gallons of blood over the course of the 18 years. He is survived by his brothers, Mark Burt of Polk City, FL and Todd Burt of Las Vegas, NV. His uncle, Jim Weaver of Crawford, TX, his aunts Virginia Burt Green of Lakeland, FL, Sharon Whaley Harvey of Waco, TX and Marilyn Allen Weaver, wife of his deceased uncle Jerry, of Bicknell, IN. His cousins, Janee` Weaver Griffin and family of Georgetown, TX, Jimmie Ray Weaver of Austin, TX, Steve Weaver and family of Waco, TX, Mike Weaver and family of Waco, TX, Susan Wolfe and her husband Randy of Lakeland, FL, Terry Weaver, and family, Mike Weaver and family, Bill Weaver and family and Dana Weaver Howell and family all of Ft. Meyers, FL, Jerry Weaver Jr of Sterling Heights, MI, Jim Weaver and family of Clarkston, MI, Donna Weaver Risley and family of Bicknell, IN, Tyrone Weaver and family of Bicknell, IN and Jim & Shirley Chaney and family of Rosedale, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Rema Weaver Jones and Goldie & Dave Burt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday September 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. David Martin officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Memorial Park Cemetery where military gravesite honors will be conducted by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Vincennes University Foundation for the John R. Burt Jr scholarship fund. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home are entrusted with the arrangements.
