Obituary for James Carlton Rutledge Sr.
James Carlton Rutledge Sr., 84, of Bruceville, IN, passed away Tuesday September 26, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. James was born December 10, 1932 in Haubstadt, IN the son of Sylvanius Ezra and Vivian Elizabeth Martin Rutledge. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a former police officer with Vincennes Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Department. He held memberships in the French Club, 40 et 8, 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #1 where he attained 32nd degree, Scottish Rite and was a member of the Knox County Shrine. He married Charlotte Sue Mathews on May 29, 1957 and they made their life together for over 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Sue Rutledge, their children, James Carlton Rutledge Jr. of Bruceville, IN, Cynthia Rutledge and her companion Douglas Arnold of Bruceville, IN and Carla Sue McGregor, and her husband Lee of Vincennes, IN. He is also survived by a grandson, Hunter James Hitt, and his wife Tamara and his former Son in Law, Jack Hitt.
James was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy, Susan Darlene Rutledge and a sister, Judy Stephens.
Services and interment will be private at his request. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
