Obituary for Mary Joan Hughes
Mary Joan Hughes, 88, of Vincennes passed away Wednesday March 22, 2023 at BridgePointe Health Campus. Joan was born November 15, 1934 in Vincennes the daughter of Clarence and Sadie Fortner Richardville. She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy and was a member of the Old Cathedral Catholic Church. Growing up she helped her parents in the neighborhood grocery store. She married Wayne Hughes February 3, 1955 and the made their life together for 46 years until his death on June 6, 2001. She was a loving, selfless woman who always gave of herself and never asked for anything in return. Her biggest passion in life was spending time with her grandkids, teaching then to paint crafts, bake numerous cakes and cookies, playing card games. She loved knitting for her family and friends.
Mary Joan is survived by three children, Jane Fiscus, and her husband Jeff of Lawrenceville, IL, Steve Hughes, and his wife Torey of Terre Haute, IN and Cathy Lawton, and her husband Patrick of Germantown, TN. Her grandchildren, Brooke Taylor, Ryan Grostefon, Melissa Shick, Cody Fiscus, Erin Seboldt, Brendan Lawton, and Kipp Lawton Her many great grandchildren who were her pride and joy always put a smile on her face everyday, Jude Shick, Jaysa Taylor, Norah Shick, Kennedy Taylor and Silas Gardner. Lily Seboldt, Oliver Seboldt, Rivers Lawton, Soori Lawton and Sarina Lawton She is also survived by her sisters, Jane Nowaskie, and her husband Steve of Vincennes and Judy Runkel, and her husband Mark of Mooresville, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, 3 brothers, Jack Richardville and Don Richardville and a brother in infancy Bobby Richardville. A granddaughter Tiffany Fiscus also preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday March 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Old Cathedral with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Wayne in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 Hour prior to the services at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the donor’s charity of choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Joan’s family during their time of loss.
