Obituary for James E. "Ernie" Banks
James E. " Ernie" Banks, 82, of Vincennes, IN passed away Wednesday June 21, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Jim was born December 6, 1940 in Vincennes the son of James "Ogle" and Elizabeth Dunfee Banks. He was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Jim married the love of his life, Rosemary Thomas on June 26, 1965 and they made their life together for nearly 57 years. He retired as a lineman for PSI/Duke Energy and after retirement, he drove for Van Go. Jim held memberships in the American Legion, 40 et 8 and served as Vice President and Director of Competition for the National Bicycle League. He was an avid sports enthusiast including NASCAR, I.U. Basketball, Golf, Bowling and anything outdoors.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rosemary Banks, their son, Chris Banks of Vincennes, IN, his brothers and sisters in law whom he thought as his siblings, Ed Thomas, and his wife Dorinda of Greenwood, IN, Don Thomas and his wife Marianna of Bebee, AR, J.D. Thomas, and his wife Gloria of Vincennes, IN and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday July 22, 2023 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Fr. Simon Natha officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 PM followed by services. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the donor's charity of choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Jim’s family during their time of loss.
