Obituary for E. Joseph Hunckler
E. Joseph “Joe” Hunckler, 88, of Vincennes, passed away Thursday afternoon with his family at his bedside. Joe was born December 8, 1929 in Vincennes the son of Frank and Louise Heinz Hunckler. He was a 1947 graduate of Lincoln High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a buyer and manager of Hills Department Store for over 38 years. He married Norma J. Tromley on December 26, 1951 and they made their life together for nearly 65 years until her death in 2016. Joe was a member of St John Catholic Church, a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, David Hunckler, and his wife Carol of Vincennes, Diane Swayze, and her husband Bob of Indianapolis, IN and Bryan Hunckler, and his wife Carol of Vincennes, IN. His grandchildren, Nick Hunckler, and his wife Kelly, Craig Hunckler, Curt Hunckler, and his wife Jackie, Allison Krohne, Rob Swayze, and his wife Janelle and Norma Danielle “Dani” Hunckler Beaman, and her husband Reeves. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Rylan Hunckler, Hope Hunckler, Luke Swayze and Lauren Swayze. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph Hunckler of Vincennes, IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma J. Hunckler, his parents, Frank & Louise Hunckler, his 4 brothers and 4 sisters, Vince Hunckler, Francis “Bud” Hunckler, Ray Hunckler, Bob Hunckler, Loretta Miller, Vicki Meyer, Bertha West and Vi Laakman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St John Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Norma in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military gravesite honors will be conducted by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM on November 5, 2018 at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. John Catholic Church, Christian Education Foundation or Good Samaritan Hospice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Hunckler family during their time of loss.
