Obituary for James J. Westfall
Jim Westfall, 72, serving his first term on the City Council passed away December 24, 2018 at the V.A. Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Jim was born August 11, 1946 in Knox County the son of James Francis and Irene Dorothy Bilskie Westfall.  Jim was a 1964 graduate of Lincoln H.S.  He also attended Central Catholic High School, Devry Technical Institute and Vincennes University.  He served his country in the U.S. Army in 1966 & 1967 during the Vietnam War.  He retired from E. Bierhaus & Sons as a retail supervisor and Wabash Foodservice in equipment sales.  His total service for those two companies spanned 42 years. Jim served on the Catholic School Board, was past President of Traveler’s Protective Association, and was a member of Vincennes Elk’s, where he served as Past Exalted Ruler and currently Trustee Chairman and President of the Past Exalted Ruler’s Association.  He is also a life member of Vincennes V.F.W. and the American Legion, and a member of Lawrenceville Moose, Vincennes F.O.P. and St. John’s Catholic Church.  Jim has served as Finance Chairman of the Knox County Relay for Life for several years
He is survived by his children, Angela Westfall of Louisville, KY, and James A. Westfall, and his wife Chastity of Smyrna, TN. His companion, Deborah Cardwell of St. Francisville, IL, his grandchildren, Olivia Westfall and Skyler Hedge and his great grandchild, Sean Hedge. He is also survived by his brother, Archie Westfall, and his wife Becky of Vincennes, IN. A nephew, Shawn Westfall and a great nephew Trever Westfall.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Francis and Irene Dorothy Bilskie Westfall.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday December 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Donald Ackerman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 1:45 PM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home when the procession will proceed to the church. Military Honors will be presented by the All Weather Firing Squad. He will be laid to rest privately. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Knox County Relay for Life or the Donor’s Charity of Choice. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist the Westfall family.
