Obituary for Katherine A. “Kay” Combs
Katherine A “Kay” Combs, age 79, died early Friday July 19 at Deaconess Heart Hospital in Evansville. She was born July 23, 1939 in Vincennes the daughter of William and Helen (Duesterberg) Rainey. She married Dr. Daniel J. Combs on October 24, 1979, and they made their life together for over 40 years. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and physician’s wife. Kay cared about everyone she met, loved to read, do crossword puzzles and play board games. She was a huge Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching all of her grandchildren’s activities as she was their fiercest supporter.
Kay is survived by her husband, Dr. Daniel J. Combs, M.D. Her children, Barbara (Andy) Carman of Columbus, IN, Keith (Cathy) Lindsey and Mary (John) Letson of Vincennes, IN. Her step-children, Randy (Lisa) Combs of Milan, IN, Elizabeth (Mark) Lee of San Antonio, TX, and Steve (Erica) of Vincennes, IN. She is also survived by grandchildren Brent Devers (Lindsay) of Columbus, IN and their children Brooks and Blake; Matthew (Jessica) and their daughter Lexie of Vincennes, IN; Levi Flory, Lindsey Flory and Ben Lindsey of Vincennes, IN. Step-grandchildren Cameron and Marisa Combs of Milan, IN; Alex, Daniel, Mackenzie and Samantha Lee of San Antonio, TX; Ryan Combs, Evan Combs and Claire Combs of Vincennes. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara J. Callaghan of Saratoga Springs, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William “Sandy” Rainey, a grandson Blake Hanger and Daughter-in-Law Jennifer Combs.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday July 23, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Dr. Darrel Bobe officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday July 22, 2019 at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Donor’s Charity of Choice or the Vincennes Lincoln Art Department. Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home is honored to assist Kay’s family during their time of loss.
